How to Become an Indian Forest Service (IFS) Officer After 12th

Step 1: Pass the 12th class with good marks.
Step 2: Candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in agriculture, forestry or engineering:

Combination Not Allowed for civil services

Indian Forest Service’ (IFS) is a group-B service. IAS and IPS are group-A Services. So, which candidate also prepare for civil services, they have not allowed to a combination of degrees subject by UPSC.

  • Agriculture and Forestry
  • Chemistry and Chemical Engineering
  • Mathematics and Statistics
  • Agriculture and Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science
  • Of the Engineering subjects namely, Agricultural Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering – not more than one subject.

Apply for UPSC- IFS exam 

After the degree, During applying online whether they are taking the civil services, the IFoS or both exams. The candidate can apply for the UPSC IFS exam. For this exam, the candidate visits UPSC’s official website and apply there.

After that, you are called to give an exam by UPSC.

This exam is the third rank conducted all over the country. UPSC is a central government organization that conducts examinations all over the country.

It consists of three (3) stages.

  • Mains Exam (Mains)
  • Interview

Step 1: Preliminary Exam (Prelims) for forest officer

Its prelims exam pattern is similar to IAS and IPS prelims so become an Indian Forest Service (IFS) Officer after the 12th; you should prepare preliminary exam in the same vein as IAS and IPS civil service exam.

There are 2 papers. Which are of 200+200 marks. This exam is a total of 400 marks. This exam is conducted in Hindi and English languages.

Step 2: Mains Exam (Mains) for indian forest service officer

There are a total of 9 papers in it.  This paper is of a total of 1750 marks.  In which 7 papers are for merit ranking and the remaining 2 papers are very few marks. 

This exam is held in January. In this exam,  candidates must write answers as explanations on the answer sheet.

There are a total of 24 services in UPSC, for which candidates are selected through the Civil Services Examination. Therefore, These are divided into two categories, All India Services and Central Services.

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) recruits every year for grades and posts of IAS, IPS, IRS and many government departments.  The Civil Services Exam is the toughest in the country.

Group B services under Central Services.  Indian Foreign Service (IFS) under Group A Services. 

In other words, Officers are selected for Indian Civil Accounts Service Indian Revenue Service (IAS), Indian Railway Service (IRTS and IRPS) and Indian Information Service (IIS) Services.

After that, Group B includes services like Civil Service, Puducherry Service, Dehli and Andaman Nicobar Island, Civil and IFS Service in the Armed Forces Headquarters.
