I’ve answered these question and guided those students apporiately . but after coming across these question repeatedly I decided to settele this this matter once and for all . that’s how I decided to write an article on the same topic .

What is an IAS officer ?
Ful form of IAS is ( indian administrative service ) UPSC conducts exam for about 24 services every
year. In which there are many posts like IAS,IPS,IRS,DM,SDM etc which are given to you after clearing the IAS exam , the work of every IAS officer is different in his own zone .
How to become an IAS officer after 12th ?
IAS AFTER 12TH : POSSIBLE?
It is not possible to become an IAS officer right after completing 12th standard!
In order to become an IAS officer , you must apply CSE exam conducted by the UPSC . you must also crack the exam ( preliminary , mains and interview in order to get selected for the training.
The basic eligibility criteria required to appear for this exam is candidate must possess graduate degree from a recognized university /
institute !
So technically , 12th passed students can’t appear for this exam right after 12th m after completing 12th , they must complete graduation first . after completing gradiuation program successfully , they may take a short and CSE and become an IAS officer subsequently !
YOU MAY BEGIN PREPRATION AFTER 12TH THOUGH !
Intrested candidates may star CSE prepration after 12th though , well , prepration can be started well before reaching 12th standard too ! you may star of CSE prepration by focusing on current affaires , making notes ( related current affiares ) and reading news papers daily.
CSE ELIGIBILITY
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION REQUIRED
All candidates must have as a minimum one of the following educational qualification.
A degree from a centram , state or a deemed university .
A degree received thorough correspondence or distande education.
A degree from an open university .
A qualification recognized by the government of india as being quivalent to one of the above
The following candidates are also eligible but must submit proof of their eiligiblty from a competent authority at there institute / university at the time of the main examination , failing which they will not be allowed to attend the exam :
1- Candidates who have appeared in an examination , the passing of which would render them educationally qualified enough to satisfy one of the above points.
2- Candidates who have passed the final exam of the MBBS degree but have not yet completed an internship .
3- Candidates who have passed the final exam of ICAI , ICSI and ICWAI.
4- A degree from any foregin university recognized by the association of indian universities by the association of indian universities.
AGE LIMIT
The candidates must between the age of 21-32 years ( for the general category candidate )
On 1 august of the year of examination however , age relactions dies exists for SC,ST,OBC and physically handicapped candidates .
For other backword castes ( OBC ) the upper age limit 35.
For scheduled castes (sc ) and scheduled tribes ( ST ) , the limit is 37 years.
The upper age limit is relaxed for certain candidates who are backword with respect to other factors and physically handicapped
( PH ) people .
Syllabus of UPSC CSE
Civil services exam ( IAS exam ) , the most covetd exam of all , is conducted by UPSC every year to recruit candidates to various services & posts in government of india . it is two stage exam consisting of:
1- Civil services preliminary examination ( objective type ) for the selection of candidates for the main examination .
2- Civil services main examination ( written & interview ) for the selection of candidates for the various & posts as mentioned in official notification.
UPSC IAS preliminary exam pattern & syllabus :
The first stage of exam i.e., the civil services preliminiary exam is only a screening test and is conducted to shortlist candidates for the main examination.mark secured in preliminary exam are not taken int o account while prepairing the final merit .
Preliminary exam consists of two papers of objective tupe carrying a maximm of 400 marks .
no. of papers 2 compulsory papers type of questions objective (MCQ) type total maximum marks 400 ( 200 each paper )
Duration of exam 2hrs. each ( 20 minutes per hour extra time for blind candidates & with locomotor disability & cerebral palsy [ minimum 40% impairment ])
Negative marking 1/3rd of the marks assigned to a question
Medium of exam Bilingual ( hindi & English )
General studies paper-1 syllabus
It has 100 questions bradly covering the following topics carrying a maximum of 200 marks to be solved in 2 hours .
Current events of national & international importance .
History of india & indian national movement .
Indian & world geography – physical , social, eci=onomic, geography of india & the world .
Indian polity & governance – contituation , political system , panchyati raj , public policy , pights issues etc.
Economic & social deveplopmet – sustainable development , poverty , inclusion , demographics , social sector initiatives, etc.
General science.
General studies paper -2 syllabus
It comprises of 80 questions from the following topics carrying a maximum of 200 marks to be solved in 2 hours.
o Comprehension.
o Interpersonal skills including communication skills.
o Logical reasoning & analytical ability. o Decision makkin & problem solving . o Genral mental ability .
Basic numeracy ( numbers & their relations , orders of magnitude , etc.) ( class X level ) , data interprepration ( charts , graphs , tables , data sufficiency , etc – class X level )
General studies paper – 2 of IAS exam is a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%.
It is mandatory for a candidate to appear in both the papers of IAS prelim exam for the purpose of evaluation.
UPSC IAS main exam pattern & syllabus
Civil services main examination consists of written examination and interview ( personality tes ) .
Civil services main examination consists of following papers divided into 2 categories – qualifying & papers tp be counted for merit.
Salary of an IAS officer
The salary of an IAS officer can reach up to Rs 2,50,000 ( approx. ) if the candidate reaches the highest post i.e cabinet secretary . as per the 7th pay commission , the salary of an IAS has been revised ,and as per the new compensation, the in – hand salary an IAS officer is Rs 56,100 plus various allowances and perks.
